Oh No, Not Aunties Beads!
By C. M. Britt
Are you tired of the same ole aunties beads? You know what I am talking about don't you? I consider auntie beads to be the ones that are old-fashioned, grungy, round, big, one color, and they also scream, "we are boring and anything but original"!
If you stop to think about it, they may even smell a little musty. Why continue to use these ancient-looking types of beads and jewelry findings to create your masterpieces?
And, why put your time and energy into making the same stale-looking, mundane jewelry that people were making 20 years ago, when today you can design pieces that are absolutely stunning?
Make a statement with your jewelry, say it boldly, say it uniquely. With today's new stunning bead and findings designs, you can completely avoid the whole cookie cutter thing!
I don't mean to make fun of auntie's beads, they were fine for grandma and auntie. I am just saying, why not break out and try something new that will give you a whole new look and attitude!
For example, instead of using tired-looking traditional jewelry beads,
why not try adding some high class Swarovski crystals to your next
piece of jewelry?
Sure, it costs a little more, but Wow, what
you get in return is well worth it. You might ask how much more? Well,
you can add a gorgeous Swarovski heart for a little over a $1.00. What
do you think? That might jazz up your bead work a bit, huh?
My
point is this, if you are going to take the time to "create" something,
why not make it a one-of-a-kind, something that makes you proud,
something that makes you stand out as an individual?
So, next
time you are thinking of going with the same ole auntie beads, stop and
think again. You don't have to settle for all of your beads looking the
same.
Here is another example. When you are looking at
closures for your jewelry, don't get the basic spring ring. Go ahead
and get a beautiful toggle clasp, now your talking! Or at least pep it
up with a lobster clasp. It is the little things about a piece of
jewelry that makes the difference between a remarkably attractive
extraordinary piece and a plain-looking ordinary one.
Of course,
it is your creation, and it is certainly your choice as to what to use
for the foundation of your creation. But, needless to say, you won't
catch me using aunties beads!
So, where can you find the kind of supplies that we're talking about, the kind that will jazz up your jewelry, the kind that will set you apart from the crowd and mark you as an outstanding jewelry maker? Here is a good source for tips on how to make jewelry using sterling silver jewelry findings and beads. If you are looking for a great place for super deals on beads and sterling silver check out this ebay store.
When creating jewelry, let your mind be free to create anything. Put different colors together, different textures together. Sometimes it won't turn out too hot, but sometimes, it will be absolutely gorgeous and you would have never been able to create it by be stifled by old rules of what goes with what.
Let me tell you an exercise I just did with a friend. It was FANTASTIC! We went on a drive and went to an art festival. We decided to take pictures of every type of cross we could find. It was fun, but when we got back and we started looking at all the crosses, from the top of churches, to the crosses created for art, to cemeteries, to road side cross tributes, to rug weavings of crosses, to jewelry crosses, it was amazing. My head is buzzing now about a way to put this collage of crosses together. I would have never considered mixing these different types expressions of the cross. So, emerse yourself in beads and see what comes out on the other end.
