What are the myths and just plain lies about athletic recruiting at the university and college level?
Is a College Athletic Scholarship your dream? Do you know anything about athletic recruiting? Is getting an athletic scholarship something you know about? Have you heard that it is tough to land that prized college athletic scholarship?
Actually, it isn't a breeze, but it is within reach. Every year, tens of thousands do it, and that's a fact. Is the effort, energy and time spent in getting one worth it? WITH OUT A DOUBT, IT IS!
Myth #1… Only 'Blue-Chip' athletes have a chance at a collegiate sports scholarship. Pure bunk!
Sure, there are some blue chip athletes that do get hounded by the college coaches; the coaches visit, the letters come, the scholarship offers are made, and there is a big time TV signing event.
And all this hoopla happens with the athlete doing nothing more than just participating in games. It's hard to believe, but this does not occur frequently!
A 'blue chip' athlete you're not, now what? Should you throw in the towel and consider your sports career over? No, not by a long shot! An overwhelming number of collegiate athletes DO NOT fall into the elite category.
Myth #2…Athletes living in small towns don't have a chance at a scholarship because there isn't much athletic recruiting going on in the sticks. This is just more garbage, don't believe it
It does make it somewhat more difficult if you live in a small town. Don't be the least bit discouraged though, because you can still show case your talents to athletic recruiting in many other ways.
Participate in camps at colleges where you would eventually like to play. Be a standout in games against larger schools, championship games, and regional tournaments.
